Lubricant – Sensational or Risky?

Make it wet!

Lubricants are arguably the most widely used sex products of all time. They come in a variety of colors, flavors, and consistencies. Sometimes they're designed to simply increase lubrication, sometimes they're designed to warm up or increase or decrease sensitivity. Interestingly, in Germany, there are very few regulations regarding what can and can't be used in sex toys and lubricants. This makes it all the more important to examine the ingredients more closely.

One in five women suffers from vaginal dryness

According to our society, sex should be hot, natural and uncomplicated – and above all
moist! Nevertheless, 20% of women in Germany are affected by vaginal dryness ,
As Durex’s Global Sex Survey shows, 40% of women say they are not
always be wet enough. Penetration without sufficient lubrication can
be painful and lead to injuries. The solution? A suitable lubricant, but
Which lubricant is best for sensitive skin?

To make it go smoothly: What makes lubricant so important

Lubricant is a popular tool for a comfortable, smooth, and intimate experience. It's used by people of all ages and genders to reduce friction and enhance sexual pleasure. But while most people focus on the benefits of lubricant, it's important to also be aware of potentially harmful ingredients that may be found in some products.

We often spontaneously reach for the largest tube in the drugstore or order anonymously in the
Internet without reading the ingredients. But what's really in these products?
Are they safe for long-term use?

It’s what’s inside that counts:

Glycerin

Glycerin is a common ingredient in lubricants because of its moisturizing properties. It is therefore found in many cosmetics. However, glycerin can cause irritation and infections in the intimate area in some people, increasing the likelihood of cystitis. Glycerin also promotes other infections. For example, glycerin can increase the growth of yeast, especially in women who are already prone to yeast infections. The increased moisture caused by glycerin can disrupt the balance of vaginal microflora and increase the risk of Candida infection. It also causes pH imbalance: Some lubricants containing glycerin can alter the vaginal pH. The normal pH of the vagina is acidic to maintain a healthy balance of microorganisms. If the pH is increased by glycerin, more infections can take hold and dryness can occur.

Often not vegan: The ingredient glycerin is derived either from plants or from animal components such as slaughterhouse waste. Therefore, vegans need to be careful.

Parabens

Parabens are artificial preservatives found in many cosmetic products. They are often used in lubricants to extend their shelf life. However, parabens have been linked to hormonal disruption and potential effects on fertility. It is advisable to choose paraben-free lubricants to minimize potential health risks.

Propylene glycol

Propylene glycol gives lubricants a smooth consistency, but can cause sensitive
may cause allergic reactions or skin irritations in some people. It is therefore recommended to
Use lubricant without propylene glycol.

Fragrances and dyes

Some lubricants contain fragrances and dyes to create a more pleasant experience. However, these ingredients can cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. It's recommended to use lubricants without fragrances and dyes to minimize the risk of irritation.

Preservatives

Of concern are ingredients such as polyhexanide (PHMB), a preservative classified as hazardous by the EU, which is nevertheless permitted for use in medical devices. Polyhexanide alone is actually used to disinfect wounds or materials. The use of polyhexanide in the vagina can lead to significant negative effects, as it can disrupt the sensitive vaginal microflora and impair the natural pH balance. It can subsequently promote vaginal dryness. The use of certain silicones and paraffins is also critical.

Sugar and alcohol

Some lubricants also contain sugar or alcohol to give them a sweet smell. Sugar promotes yeast infections and bladder infections. Alcohol damages the vaginal flora and causes dryness! While these two substances are not uncommon during sex, they should definitely not end up on your mucous membranes.

Caution: The ingredients listed here are not found in every lubricant. Some are only harmful if used repeatedly and for long periods. We are also referring to the vaginal mucous membranes; there is no flora in the anus that can be damaged.

But – what then?

We recommend our ginger spray for mucous membranes. Instead of applying a film to the mucous membranes, it stimulates your own moisture production. It causes the mucous membranes to swell and become more sensitive. This means you get more benefit from it, and only need a few spritzes each time. What is in the ginger spray?

Water

We only use the finest natural plant extracts and purified water according to DIN standard ISO 9001:2015 on your skin.

Ginger extract

The ginger plant grows up to 1.5 meters tall and forms a yellowish root in the soil, which can be harvested after approximately 240 days. It grows predominantly in the tropics and subtropics. Ginger contains over 100 natural ingredients. The package insert isn't long enough to list them all. However, we'd like to mention the most important ones for increasing libido here: gingerols and shogaols.

Birch sugar

For a pleasant and healthy sweetness on the tongue. Birch sugar reduces the growth of caries bacteria and reduces acid-induced decalcification of the teeth.

Sweet blackberry leaf extract

The first historical evidence of the use of blackberry leaves as a medicinal ingredient comes from the Greek physician Galen, who practiced in Rome. Soldiers who drank the blackberry tea he prescribed reported stronger, healthier teeth and a feeling of energization. Unleash the soldier of love within you, while the blackberry leaves add a special flavor to our spray.

Xanthan gum

Xanthan gum is a naturally occurring fiber that we use in small doses as a thickener in organic products. It cannot be metabolized by the human body and is therefore classified as a dietary fiber.

Conclusion: Which lubricant is best for you?

Not all lubricants are the same. It's important to pay attention to the ingredients and choose products tailored to your specific needs, such as sensitive skin or latex allergy. Opt for natural, gentle alternatives to promote your sexual well-being and avoid unwanted side effects.
